What a Busy April!

Wow, what a month April 2012 has been! Tree Pittsburgh cannot recall a spring season busier than this one!

Some Tree Pittsburgh staff started out strong on April 1st by attending the Beaver Maple Syrup Festival complete with all-you-can-eat pancakes with real maple syrup harvested on site. After carb-loading on pancakes, Tree Pittsburgh staff were ready for volunteer events and tree planting all month.

Throughout April, Tree Pittsburgh:

  • Worked with volunteers in the Tree Nursery to transplant seedlings,
  • Cared for trees with volunteers in Regent Square, on the South Side Slopes, in Highland Park, Allegheny Commons, and in Bloomfield,
  • Enjoyed tree-themed films at the Urban Forest Film Festival,
  • Planted over 400 trees on the South Side Riverfront Trail with Fed Ex Earth Smart, TreeVitalize, and Friends of the Riverfront,
  • Cared for trees and planted new ones with more than 50 City employees on the Eliza Furnace Trail,
  • Celebrated the 140th Arbor Day at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Hill District and Squirrel Hill Branches, with the Environmental Charter School at Frick Park, and Child’s Way and Mario Lemieux Family Home,
  • and planted trees with TreeVitalize every weekend.

If you missed your chance to plant, care for, learn about and celebrate trees with Tree Pittsburgh, don’t worry! We have lots of events coming up: Tree Identification Walks, TreeLovin’ Happy Hour, and the Penn-Del ISA Tree Climbing Competition just to name a few! Check out the Events Calendar and join us soon.
