Tree Tenders Spruce Up Trees in the South Side

This past Saturday, Tree Pittsburgh joined an excellent group of South Side Tree Tenders as we kicked off our Cinco de Mayo with a great morning of tree care. From 10am-noon, we weeded and mulched over 40 trees, picked up litter, and beautified the 5 block stretches of East Carson and Sarah Street between 22nd and 17th Streets.

The weeding and mulching process helps trees in a variety of ways by aerating the soil, reducing competition from weeds, and helping hold moisture in the soil, among other things. With all of the stresses that urban trees have to contend with on a regular basis, these South Side trees are lucky to have a group of such hard working and dedicated Tree Tenders.
