Trees provide shade and shelter, reducing yearly heating and cooling costs by 2.1 billion dollars.
Recycle your Christmas tree!
If you bought a live Christmas tree this year, don’t just toss it to the curb! It will be collected by the refuse crews as regular refuse. Instead, take it to one of the City of Pittsburgh’s drop-off locations, and it will be composted. Trees must have all ornaments, lights and stands removed. Absolutely no trees in plastic bags or netting will be accepted.
Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., bring your tree to one of the following drop-off locations:
East End - North Dallas Avenue at Hamilton Avenue (412-665-3609)
Hazelwood - Melanchton Avenue off the 5200 block of 2nd Avenue (412-422-6524)
West End - 1330 Hassler Street, off Herschel & Steuben next to Herschel Park (412-937-3054)
Strip District - Environmental Services Lot at 3001 Street (412-255-2773)
For more information, contact the Recycling Division at 412-255-2631.
