Each October, Tree Pittsburgh and hundreds of volunteers participate in Mulch Madness, working each weekend to get trees ready for winter.  The end of summer's weeds are pulled and fresh mulch is put around them to insulate the roots during the upcoming cold weather.  This past year, Tree Pittsburgh organized six events throughout the City of Pittsburgh with the help of over 500 volunteers. Mulch Madness helps to educate the public on the importance of weeding and mulching your tree while engaging with neighborhood residents in Pittsburgh.

Mulch Madness is a month-long effort during October that promotes tree stewardship within the city of Pittsburgh. Mulch Madness is part of the national campaign NeighborWoods Month sponsored by ACTrees and the Home Depot Foundation.
