Trees provide protection from downward fall of rain, sleet, and hail as well as reduce storm run-off and the possibility of flooding.
More Fruit Trees Coming to Pittsburgh
Thanks to the Alliance for Community Trees and President Obama’s People’s Garden Initiative, Tree Pittsburgh has partnered with Grow Pittsburgh to plant fruit trees in two local community gardens and develop a fruit tree planting and care curriculum to offer to local residents. The grant will enable us to offer a fruit tree planting and care class to local residents, plus plant fruit trees at the Larimer Community Garden and Homewood YMCA. Look for more details this summer!
This new initiatives leads us to pay close attention to similar efforts across the Nation. Check out what’s happening in Beecher, MI – a city near Flint, MI.
“The project in Beecher is one of 12 orchards in six cities across the country that will be planted as a part of Fruitful Neighborhoods, a community tour that brings orchards to urban communities starting April 22 in St. Louis.” Read More Here.
