Join over 1,300 Pittsburghers, Greening the City One Tree at a Time!
"Tree Tenders are the national guard of the arborist world: a civilian group taking care of what the pros can't quite get to." -Pittsburgh City Paper, Best Way to Get Your Hands Dirty, 2011
Tree Tenders are making a difference in Pittsburgh, planting trees and caring for existing ones--ensuring a healthy urban forest for generations to come.
Tree Tenders take an 8 hour course and learn about urban forestry practices, tree biology and health, proper planting, pruning, and maintenance, and lead their communities in organizing tree plantings and tree care there.
Tree Tender Courses :: 2015
The cost is $40, which includes registration, materials, light food, and instruction. Scholarships are available, contact Joe@treepittsburgh.org or call 412-781-8733 for more information.
Tree Tender Courses are sponsored by EQT. EQT and the EQT Foundation are committed to the social and economic vitality of our operating regions. For the past decade, the EQT has made a difference by supporting local programs and initiatives that involve education, community and economic development, the arts, and the environment. Together with a variety of non-profit organizations, the EQT Foundation develops strong partnerships that enrich the diversity and viability of our communities, sustain the principals of continuous learning, and focus on environmental protection efforts.
Due to the nature of this course, we prefer Tree Tenders be at least 16 years of age. If you have any special needs, please inquire and we can provide for them.
Pre-Registration is required.
The next class will be hosted by the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association on Saturday March 21, 2015.
Tree Pittsburgh will be in the watershed on Saturday March 21 to educate and certify a new group of Tree Tenders. Attendees will enjoy a light breakfast and lunch as well as provided work books and t-shirts. NMRWA Members and watershed residents may register at a reduced rate!
